Identify Any Fish

Effective 4 November 2026

Effective 4 November 2026

Your catches and private map
Saved catch photos, results, notes and optional catch coordinates are stored on your device. There is no public catch feed, public posting or automatic cloud catch backup. Your operating system may handle device backups separately. Export a backup before uninstalling or changing phones. An exported backup contains your saved catch data, including pins; protect it accordingly.

AI fish identification
Before your first identification, we ask permission to send your selected photo and region through Cloudflare to OpenAI. We resize the whole photo and remove its embedded metadata before upload. If you separately choose to include a catch location for a scan, its coordinates, reported accuracy and capture time are sent as identification context. A private map pin is not automatically included. Do not submit a photo or location you do not have permission to share. Identification may be wrong.

You can withdraw AI processing permission in Settings to prevent new submissions. Withdrawing permission does not undo processing already requested. Saved catches and the built-in guide remain available. Location access is optional, requested only when you use a location control, and is not used for background tracking. You can disable it in the app or device Settings and place pins manually instead.

Online processing and retention
Our Cloudflare service uses an installation identifier, reward verification records and usage counters to operate and protect scans. Temporary scan photos and optional coordinates are removed from our database after processing or failure; unfinished jobs expire after 24 hours and are cleaned up periodically. Temporary results also expire. You can request deletion of this installation's online scan data in Settings. We do not log photo contents, exact catch coordinates or AI keys in application logs.

OpenAI, Cloudflare and their infrastructure may separately retain operational, security or abuse-monitoring data under their policies and may process data outside your country. We disable OpenAI stored-response history; this does not promise zero provider retention. See OpenAI's privacy policy and API data controls, and Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Identification reports
If you choose Report identification, we send the selected reason and the identification's species names, summary, confidence, safety notes and fishing-rules text to Vasser Studios through Cloudflare for review. The report does not include your photo, catch notes or catch coordinates. Reports are linked to this installation and retained for up to 90 days. Delete online scan data in Settings also deletes this installation's reports.

Guide and map connections
Worldwide guide search sends your search words to our Cloudflare catalogue. Guide images are delivered through the Vasser Studios website. Opened reference profiles and images are cached on your device, with a limit on the number retained. No AI request is made to browse a guide. Reference text and images have their own source and licence notices.

Map backgrounds are requested from OpenStreetMap's tile service. The service receives network information, including your IP address and the map areas requested. Your catch photos, names, notes and pin list are not uploaded to OpenStreetMap. Tiles are cached according to the provider's rules; offline map packs are not offered. OpenStreetMap data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and available under the Open Database License.

Advertising
Google Mobile Ads processes advertising, device and network information under your privacy choices and its policies. We request non-personalised ads and do not add catch photos or catch coordinates to ad requests. Rewarded ads support each new AI attempt; a banner supports worldwide guide browsing. Advertising privacy controls are available in Settings. Report inappropriate ads through Help & support.

Sharing and your choices
Sharing opens your device's share sheet only when you choose it. A catch card includes the photo, fish name, identification status and app link; it does not include your saved coordinates or private notes. The receiving app or recipient handles information under its own policies. We do not publish your catch to a community service. You can delete individual local catches and pins or clear local catch history in Settings.
